Armenian Monastery in the Issy

Working with the historical materials led the artist to another important discovery, related to the high-mountain Issyk-Kul Lake. Numerous legends and Chinese manuscripts testify to existence of ancient civilizations there. The lake supposedly containing “Sakas treasures and the loot Genghis Khan”, recently attracted much attention of archeologists, historians and others interested in unsolved mysteries. One such mystery drew Dana’s attention… In the days of early Christianity, its Christian outposts were widespread in Central Asia. Documents point to one such monastery on the shore of Issyk-Kul. Current Metropolitan of Central Asia and Bishkek, Vladimir, believes “that in Kyrgyzstan, at Issyk-Kul there is one of the greatest Christian relics - a shrine with remains of the Sacred Apostle and Evangelist Matthew”. In some historical documents confirm that the remains of St. Matthew are located in a monastery of the Armenian Brothers on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul. Issyk-Kul’s for significance Christians confirms is confirmed by the famous Catalan map of the World, dated 1375.
