20 years later ...

Is there a better day to start a new project than the first day of a new decade? Today I’m 20 and also today I am writing for the first time on my website. I’ll start with a humble apology for the lack of coherence that I’m sure you’ll find here and there in my texts. The explanation is very simple – I paint better than I write. Even so, every now and then I have the necessity to write. In fact, I have been thinking about it for over a year now. The goal is to share the art I create, but also to create more in order to share; to share what I think, but also to think and read more in order to have something to share. Here’s a bit about myself that you’re not going to read in the facts of my biography: I am an artist from Republic of Moldova. I first took a paintbrush in my hands when I was about 12. It was probably an abstract painting. I love portraiture. I always start a portrait by painting the eyes. The biggest thing I’ve done was Venice Biennale in 2011. The first time when I understood that art has the power to create emotion was in late May 2011, when a woman dropped a few tears in from of the painting “Grandad” in Galleria Terza Millenio in Venice. When in airports, I always sketch people in secrecy. I’ve spent two years in a lovely small town in Cornwall, called Truro. From Truro I have memories of secret societies, caricatures, the RBA scholar award, sand drawing and charity concerts, all of them accompanied by some lovely harp notes played by my friend Abi. Now I’m studying Art History at St Andrews University. The only thing I’m gonna say now about this small town is that I love the sea. The rest you’ll discover here, starting from September, when I’ll begin my second year at uni. Meanwhile I am in Chisinau, making the most of my summer. There is so much to say! I am excited, are you?? P.S. Here are some sketches of myself. I think they’re the most reasonable to accompany my introductory post. http://valeriaduca.com/noutati.php?id=270
